of outer border at top and sides and loss of printer's name at bottom. This makes
identification of edition uncertain. The "Supplément" to the street index contains two
names more than that for the edition of 1857; see University of Chicago Library web site

plan
: lithograph, hand coloring ; sheet 60 x 80, folded in cover
to 16 x 11 cm + 1 letterpress street index (78 p. ; 15 cm)
Cover title. Undated. Conjectural publication date 1865 written in pencil on verso of
plan and on p. [1] of street index. Plan is ruled into four quarters, each composed of
16 numbered rectangles, to which the separately printed "Nomenclature alphabétique des
rues de Paris" is indexed. Each rectangle is subdivided into 5 areas, the central panel
of which is color coded for the quarter in which it is located. Thus the location of
each street is given as a letter for the quarter's color, a number for the rectangle,
and a second letter for the sub-area of the rectangle. Folded plan was originally
attached to cover of green textured cloth, stamped in blind and gilt. Binders identified
as Vigneau & Pasquier on p. [4] of cover. Street index sewn to p. [2] of cover.
Scale not given. In Getty copy plan detached from cover. Following the street index are
stapled 8 leaves of blank ruled paper, apparently intended for notes; the first leaf
bears names and addresses in Paris, now lined out. Front pastedown in Getty copy is
publisher's list of Guides pratiques Conty. Back pastedown is advertisement for Mauger
& Fils & Letu, manufacturers of porcelaine and ceramics. On back pastedown is
bookplate of Georges Mermilliod, avoué à la Cour d'appel. On verso of plan and on p. [1]
of street index is an owner's stamp in blue ink, consisting of a deer between two palm
fronds, surmounted by a marquis's coronet (not in Lugt). Written within both stamped
impressions is the number 409, and beside the impression on plan verso are several
inscriptions, including: Desault / Le Mans (Sarthe).

73.5 cm, folded in cover to 15.5 x 10.5 cm + text ([11] pages ; 15

Two maps printed on a sheet of vellum paper, a bird's-eye view of Paris on recto and a
vertical projection of the Paris region on verso. Undated, but view of Paris includes
Metro lines in use and under construction; the latest line shown as being in use
(étoile-Nation) was opened in 1909, suggesting a publication date in or about that year.
Not in Vallée, who lists an edition of 1900 as well as earlier versions engraved by F.
Dufour starting in 1892 (L. Vallée, Catalogue des plans de Paris, 1306-1310).
Accompanying letterpress text in French, English, German and Spanish, entitled: Jours et
heures d'entrée dans les bibliothèques, monuments, musées, etc., etc. Printed by Imp.
Kapp. Selected buildings and monuments shown pictorially on both maps. Regional map
includes rivers, railroads, and bicycle routes (the last shown as "praticables" or "non
