Materials principally comprise audiovisual recordings of oral history interviews, public conversations, and lectures from 2008 to 2012, generated by the Getty Research Institute (GRI) through its Pacific Standard Time: Art in L.A. initiative. The GRI recorded these interviews and events to document and preserve the art historical record of Los Angeles from 1945 to 1980. When available, supporting documentation such as transcripts, photographs and ephemera is also included with the use copy of the recording. Project background documentation relating to Pacific Standard Time: Art in L.A. as a whole are also included at the beginning of the series. In these recordings, leading artists, filmmakers, musicians, curators, and critics were asked to discuss their contributions to Los Angeles' vibrant postwar art scene during these years.
