Series II. Medieval art, ca. 1936-1972 2.0 linear feet
Series II contains ca. 150 photos and postcards used for the research and publication of The Mosaics of Rome, from the Third to the Fourteenth Centuries; published articles by Oakeshott on the Malory ms., press clippings relating to its sale, and a catalogue for an exhibition at Winchester, 1936, when it was first displayed after its identification; a photocopy of "The Winchester XIIth Century Bible and the Paintings of the 'Holy Sepulchre' Chapel" ( Winchester Cathedral Record, 1939); drafts and illustrations for The Two Winchester Bibles; drafts of a catalogue of initials intended to be published in The Two Winchester Bibles (unpublished); drafts and copies of lectures and portions of various publications on the Winchester Bibles and artists; an offprint for "The Sigena Paintings and the Second Style of Rubrication in the Winchester Bible" (1972); ca. 350 photos of the Winchester Bible, Morgan Leaf, and related material, many with Oakeshott's notes on the back; a draft and notes for the article, "The Abbot Who Thought He Knew Better," concerning two 12th century Zacharias Chrysopolitanus mss.; ca. 50 photos of wall paintings from Sigena and related material, some used to illustrate Sigena: Romanesque Paintings in Spain & the Winchester Bible Artists; ca. 470 photos of Ancient, Early Christian and Medieval art, many used to illustrate Classical Inspiration in Medieval Art; ca. 40 photos used to illustrate The Sequence of English Medieval Art; lecture on Romanesque art.
