Series III. Renaissance and Elizabethan studies, ca. 1960-1986 0.75 linear feet
Series III contains .75 linear ft. of drafts, proofs, and other publication material for the publication of Some Woodcuts by Hans Burgkmair, printed for the Roxburghe Club, typescript and proofs of "The Siena Portrait of Queen Elizabeth I," (written with Anson Jordan; typescript and offprint of "Some Classical and Medieval Ideas in Renaissance Cosmography," published in Fritz Saxl, 1890-1948; a Volume of Memorial Essays from His Friends in England; a typescript article discussing 4 maps in the Winchester College Library and a press clipping of "A Tudor Explorer and His Map of Russia" ( Times Literary Supplement); typescripts of "An Unknown Raleigh Manuscript"; drafts and notes for The Queen and the Poet, 1960; typescript of a text called in its first version "An Elizabethan Anthology in its context: the Appended Poems to Love's Martyr, 1601" and changed to "Love's Martyr" in the second version, dated 2 Sept 1982 (unpublished) based upon ground-work laid in an article, "Love's Martyr," in The Huntington Library Quarterly, 1975; lecture entitled "Shakespeare and Plutarch"; and various photos related to the above. The series also contains English transcriptions of 5 letters from Philip II of Spain concerning the provisioning of Spanish ships.

Ms. contains handwritten comments in pencil by Anson [Jordan]; letter (31 Aug 1981) from Anson written to accompany this manuscript upon its return to Oakeshott. [See also folder 12 for later version of article.]

This version entitled "Love's Martyr" and dated 2 Sept 1982 (unpublished) (based upon ground-work laid in an article, "Love's Martyr," published by Oakeshott in The Huntington Library Quarterly, 11/75); 1 draft page for a suggested letter from Oakeshott to Cambridge Press to accompany a final version of this article.

Transcriptions in English of 5 letters from Philip II of Spain concerning the provisioning of the Armada (1588) and Spanish galleys in the Mediterranean (1585-86); ms. and typescript copies of a letter to Lord Threr of England from Charles Howard, Earl of Nottingham (1591) with a 2 pp. biographical history of Howard pulled from unidentified book; photocopy of a printed Order of Parliament for a Day of Thanksgiving for the victory at Santa Cruz over the Spaniards, 1657, with a narrative of the event (5 pp.).
