Scope and Content of Collection
The Norman Neuerburg papers regarding the design and construction of the J. Paul Getty Museum contain materials gathered by
the university art history professor in his capacity as historical consultant to the design of the J. Paul Getty Museum, also
known as the Getty Villa. The archive contains correspondence, lecture notes and manuscripts, construction reports and updates,
numerous drawings and design schemes for the Villa, notes on design schemes, press clippings, photographs, slides, and negatives.
The collection begins with the early stages of designing and planning, flows into the period of the Villa's construction,
and extends further to the critical and public response and other issues that arose well after the museum opened to the public.
