In 1982, Anne Willan and Mark Cherniavsky purchased the Château du Feÿ near Villecien
in Burgundy as a family retreat. A large château dating primarily from the 17th
century, it became the site of La Varenne's educational programs beginning in 1988.
The school expanded its programs there furthermore after it closed its Paris location
in 1990. The school's records at Le Feÿ consist of administrative files, a guestbook,

Willan wrote over twenty-five cookbooks and books about gastronomy, including La Varenne pratique, The Cookbook
Library, a large survey on the history of gastronomy, the 17-volume Look and Cook series, and works that have a biographical
component such as From My Château Kitchen and One Soufflé at a Time. Included in the archive are drafts,
typescripts, galleys, page proofs, electronic files, and annotated copies of the
publications. Included are also files relating to the press coverage received by
Willan for these publications, which complement the clippings in Series I.D. For

menus, advertising cards, broadsides, and newspaper tearsheets. There are cards
advertising products of the Liebig Company and lithographs promoting the wine
distributed by the Établissements Nicolas. Included are menus and recipes designed by
the artists Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939), Léon Lebègue (1863-1944), Alice L. Waters
(born 1944) and David L. Goines (born 1945).
