The Anne Willan Papers complement the Anne Willan
and Mark Cherniavsky Gastronomy Collection, which includes an extensive
collection of early printed gastronomy books. The collection also includes drawings,
ephemera, prints and manuscripts dating from the 16th to the late 20th century. Rare
books and other selected works in the collection have been cataloged in the Library Catalog and can be searched by the name of the
author or artist, by the title, or the topic.
Arrangement
Series IV is arranged in five subseries: Series IV.A. Documentation; Series IV.B.
Drawings; Series IV.C. Ephemera; Series IV.D. Prints; Series IV.E. Manuscripts.

Series IV.A. Documentation includes inventories of the Anne Willan and Mark
Cherniavsky gastronomy collection and auction catalogs gathered by Willan and
Cherniavsky for the building of the collection. The series comprises CDs and DVDs
containing image files. Software formats were identified using a DROID (Digital Record
Object IDentification) report from information recorded in the PRONOM technical
registry. All dates refer to last modified dates of files.

The Anne Willan and Mark Cherniavsky gastronomy collection includes ephemera such as
menus, advertising cards, broadsides, and newspaper tearsheets. There are cards
advertising products of the Liebig Company and lithographs promoting the wine
distributed by the Établissements Nicolas. Included are menus and recipes designed by
the artists Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939), Léon Lebègue (1863-1944), Alice L. Waters
(born 1944) and David L. Goines (born 1945).
