Herms (George) Papers
Series VI. Tap City Circus, 1960-2002, undated 0.42 Linear Feet (1 box, 1 flatfile folder)
This series contains material, often produced by Herm's Love Press, that Herms used in his nearly annual fundraising events. Essentially auctions, or raffles, to help sustain the artist and his family, these were invitation events where Herms would sell common household items along with art work, often to the accompaniment of music, and in general festivity. The name of the event evolved over time in continuous word play, from raffle to roofle, baffle, rawful, ruffle, earful, and eyeful. The series contains silkscreened or handprinted invitations, announcements, tickets, and other ephemera, along with photographs.
