34 Portraits by Oswald Birley, 1923-1924 1 album
Portraits by Oswald Birley

Joseph Duveen met the British portrait painter Oswald Birley in 1922 and promoted the artist's career after Birley's arrival in the United States in 1923, assisting him in obtaining commissions from J. Pierpont Morgan and Andrew W. Mellon. In February 1924, Birley, accompanied by Duveen, traveled to San Marino to paint the portraits of Arabella and Henry E. Huntington. The album, which includes the portraits of Arabella and Henry E. Huntington, Margaret Mellon and J. Pierpont Morgan, is a visual record of the work of the artist, which was facilitated by Duveen.
With manuscript note: "Mr. Mellon given to B. B. Jan 3/54."
The album is accompanied by two leaflets of exhibitions of the artist's work at the Duveen Galleries: Portraits by Oswald Birley, January, 1923, Duveen Galleries 720 Fifth Avenue and Portraits of Oswald Birley, March 20th-April 3rd, 1924, Duveen Galleries at 56th Street 720 Fifth Avenue.
