Scope and Content of Collection
The album of 33 photographs (mostly albumen prints) contains 20 views of the Cambodian
temple complexes of Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom and the Bayon temple. Members of an European
expedition and local inhabitants are present in several photographs. The album also contains
views of Phnom Penh, Huế, and Canton (Guangzhou), including one image of the inauguration of
the Silver Pagoda in Phnom Penh (1894). Also included are two views of Egypt (sphinx,
pyramids).
One photograph is signed in the negative: E. Gsell; two are signed in the negative:
Zangaki.
The album has red cloth covers, and is lacking its spine.
Annotations are transcribed as they appear on the mounts or in negatives and are used as
titles. A second, modern set of annotations is initialed G. L.
