William Light (1786-1839) was an English soldier and surveyor, best known as the
founder of Adelaide, Australia. Between postings, Light traveled and sketched in
Italy. Views of Pompeii, a book of lithographs after his
drawings, was published in 1828.
Vander Poel intended to identify and document features of the ruins seen in the
drawings. This subseries contains the copy work negatives used by Vander Poel to
create a reproduction of Light's book (see Separated Material section). The date of
Vander Poel's research on Light is unknown.
