Geissler's catalog of drawings in museum collections consists of notes handwritten on paper approximately 5 x 10 cm. in size.
Most collections are in Germany, but also in other European countries, mainly Austria, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland,
and Russia; a few are in the United States and Canada, as well as in Israel (Jerusalem). Occasionally included is correspondence,
mainly letters received by Geissler.
The indexes are divided into three groups: by city, by country, and in Bavaria. Filed at the end of the group arranged by
country are bibliographical references, and a list of photographs in the collection of Bildarchiv Foto Marburg.
The group on drawings in Bavaria consists of notes on artworks and inventories held mainly at Bayerische Staatsgemälde Sammlungen
in Munich, and in various collections in Augsburg. A separate group originally filed here are photographs and research papers
on Christoph Schwarz from Ingolstadt.
Arrangement
The first two groups are filed alphabetically and the original German filing order is retained. The Bavaria group is subdivided
into two sequences, GI and GII, and includes a separate research file on Christoph Schwarz from Ingolstadt.

Staatsgemälde Sammlungen in Munich, also in Augsburg. Some notes concern artworks known only from reference sources. The cards
are numbered by Geissler in two sequences: GI (numbers 1-27) and GII (numbers 127-137, 152, 157-158, 162-166, 169-170,172).
Part of the GI sequence are notes on artworks and inventories in collections outside of Bavaria: Kunsthistorisches Museum
in Vienna (folder 10), Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, Massachusetts (folder 11), and Hampton Court Palace in London, England
(folder 12).
A separate group Geissler originally filed here are notes, letters received, and transcripts of sixteenth-century documents
related to his research on the court painter Christoph Schwarz from Ingolstadt.
Christoph Schwarz (Ingolstadt), 1957-1966, undated
The Christoph Schwarz file consists of Geissler's notes; letters he received from Schloss Ingolstadt, Städtische Kunstsammlungen
Augsburg, Dr. Schmid in Geisenfeld, Jarmila Vacková in Prague, and R. Till at Magistrat der Stadt Wien; and transcripts of
sixteenth-century documents from the collection of Bayerisches Hauptstaatsarchiv in Munich, which mention Schwarz. Among the
transcripts are financial records of the Duchy of Bavaria, excerpts from an orderly book, correspondence of William V, Duke
of Bavaria, and excerpts from his decrees. Also present are a few photocopies of some of the documents. Filed together with
the above materials are fourteen photographs, including one in color; notes; a letter to Geissler from K.H. Rochels in Leverkusen,
and a letter to Geissler from Dr. Kaczmarzyk at Propyläen-Kunsthandlung in Berlin (folders 24-25). These items were originally
filed by Geissler in a binder with correspondence.
