Liberman (Alexander) Photography Archive
Series II. Publications, circa 1925-1998 42 Linear Feet (41 boxes, 19 frames)
Materials for Liberman's book publications, arranged by publication. Also included are materials for Barbara Rose's book about Alexander Liberman. Boxes 302 to 303A below contain original color transparencies of photographs used as illustrations in four of Liberman's books: Greece, gods and art (1968), Artist in his studio (1960, 1988), Campidoglio: Michelangelo's Roman capitol (1994), and Prayers in stone (1998). Because they were used for reproduction purposes, the original transparencies are accompanied by some other materials, such as duplicate transparencies-some enlarged-copy negatives, prints, and notes of "Plate" and "Slug" numbers. All such material has been retained, and any numbering label is placed with the photograph it refers to. Copies of Liberman's books, glass negatives, oversize framed photographic prints and posters.

Rose, Barbara, Alexander Liberman, circa 1981
Relates to Barbara Rose's book, Alexander Liberman, published New York, 1981. The contents of this original box comprise photographic prints, the bulk black-and-white but some in color, and color transparencies in various formats, of photographs used as illustrations for the book. Photographs are undated and many date prior to 1981. The bulk of the photographs are of Liberman's artwork, especially his sculptures, in various settings; some show Liberman himself. Almost all of these items have labels or tags, or both, giving page and plate numbers from the book, and other, apparently technical, information. The photographs were collected in four plastic bags, each labeled with a span of plate numbers, and each of Boxes 96 to 99 now houses the contents of one of these bags, arranged in order by plate numbers; the label from the original bag is the first item in each box. The original box also contained three loose black and white prints, which are in Box 100.
