The Special Collections and Institutional Archives departments create finding aids for the Getty Research Institute's archival and visual resource collections and for a few historical records of the J. Paul Getty Trust. A "finding aid" describes the scope and contents of a group of records and provides an inventory of materials within the records.

It contains correspondence from the last three years of Smith's life, a selection of Smith's manuscripts and art, most of his original films, his final audio project, Materials for the Study of Religion and Culture in the Lower East Side or Movies for Blind People, and a sizeable portion of his realia collections, including paper airplanes.

 Abstract:  The papers of noted Welsh-born feminist painter Sylvia Sleigh (1916-2010) document her life, career, and the larger context of contemporary feminist art, with the bulk of the collection dating from 1940-2000. Sleigh, a realist painter, moved to the United States in 1961 with her husband, art critic Lawrence Alloway. Sleigh's paintings of nude males in traditional odalisque poses remain her best-known works. She was a central figure in the New York City area feminist art movement of the 1970s.
