Collection Inventories and Finding Aids

The Special Collections and Institutional Archives departments create finding aids for the Getty Research Institute's archival and visual resource collections and for a few historical records of the J. Paul Getty Trust. A "finding aid" describes the scope and contents of a group of records and provides an inventory of materials within the records.

 Abstract:  The collection comprises architectural records, photographs, and ephemera documenting the development of the facilities and activities of the Center for the History of Art and the Humanities (GCHAH) of the J. Paul Getty Trust at 401 Wilshire Boulevard in Santa Monica, California from 1980 to 1994. The architectural records consist of blueline prints, blueprints, drawings, architectural models, reports, photographs, slides and negatives, for and of 401 Wilshire Boulevard. The photographs and ephemera document the interior spaces of 401 Wilshire Boulevard and the various activities of the GCHAH.

 Abstract:  The papers of Gabrielle Kopelman document her numerous projects as a New York-based independent conservator for various institutions such as The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and The Toledo Museum of Art, as well as art dealers including P. & D. Colnaghi & Company and Wildenstein & Company. The archive includes restoration projects of paintings by major artists such as Rembrandt, Peter Paul Rubens and Hendrik Terbrugghen. The bulk of the collection contains photographic documentation of paintings in the form of black-and-white prints, negatives, radiographs and color transparencies. Also included are related papers including correspondence, invoices, notes and clippings.

 Abstract:  The Aldo Rossi papers contain a selection of works by the prolific architect, writer, artist and theorist. The collection includes notebooks, lectures and course materials, assorted writings and correspondence, drafts for publications, clippings and ephemera. A set of architectural drawings for the Palazzo dei Congressi, Milan (not realized) consisting of preliminary sketches and design plans as well as an architectural design in pencil and oil are also included.
